Identify the fixture and what it does
A toilet that runs, a faucet that drips and water beneath a basin can involve different components. Record when it happens and whether a shutoff is accessible. Have the model or a clear fixture photograph ready rather than assuming that all parts are interchangeable.
Clarify parts, condition and repair fit
Ask whether the work replaces a serviceable component, repairs a connection or replaces the fixture. Worn shutoffs, damaged surrounding materials or unusual fittings can change the scope. Cosmetic work and water-damage recovery are separate unless explicitly included.
Check water-use concerns without promising savings
EPA WaterSense recommends checking leaks and investigating running toilets. A repair can address waste, but a generic claim cannot predict savings at your property. Sacramento County appliance rebates are currently on hold; check the actual water supplier before counting on a rebate.
Agree on the installation details
Model compatibility, access, isolation, parts availability and testing affect cost and timing. If you supply a fixture, agree on who checks fit, missing parts and warranty responsibilities. Have changes explained and priced before more work.
Prepare the call
Tell the independent business which fixture is involved, the symptom and whether water continues to escape. Confirm address availability, any assessment charge and whether your supplied parts can be used.
Questions to ask about toilets, faucets & fixture repair
- Does the fixture need a part or full replacement?
- Who supplies and checks compatible parts?
- How will leaks and operation be tested?
Does the quote include everything?
Ask about assessment charges, the proposed remedy, parts, testing and work excluded from the scope. Availability and charges depend on the independent business and actual property. Compare the supplied scopes and exclusions before choosing.
